I am a qualified teacher that loves innovation and new methodologies. Currently, I am working as a language assistant in London where I am learning how to implement new techniques, activities and games. In short, a new whole approach to teaching that has enriched my profile as a teacher. I have learnt how the British system works and the importance of preparing appropriately the external exams such as GCSE or A-Levels. Among my duties, I am responsible for planning and delivery lessons every week as well as the design and correction of exams. Likewise, I have been preparing students for the GCSE and A level exams analising their weak spots and designing activities to help them improve. I am truly enjoying the experience since I have grown as a teacher learning how dynamic lessons and connecting with students help their learning process. The fact that I am out going and thanks to my adaptation skills, I have been able to adjust to a new education system as well as to establish a good teacher- student relationship taking into account the different cultural background of the students and making the most of it. I love sharing my enthusiasm for new cultures and helping people discover other cultures. Apart from this year experience, since 2009, I have been doing private tutoring and I feel that language and culture should go together. In addition, it is usually a fun and a dynamic methodology that engages students what has worked for me. Motivated students tend to work harder and have a much faster development. Getting to know your students and incorporating their interest into their lesson makes learning a language easier and students enjoy themselves while learning. I am really in favour of a student-centered pedagogy that prioritizes the students’ needs and learning process.

I surely understand the needs and rhythm of each student. The students must participate from the first second in the class. I do use differents method or approaches to make them easy to learn.

I prepare for every single class the lesson plan. This way I can organize the aims, possible problems, and give to the students a reason to believe everything they learn makes sense.

I have been teaching one to one with students who contacted me. I have done my practice in the Cervantes Institute based in London with classes of 6-8 students.

In my experience I have been using course books (Gente, Bitacora), but I prepare specific material depending on the level for extra activities.

I am a great teacher because I am a languages lover myself. I am mother tongue Italian and I love my language and literature. That’s why I try to teach it in the best way I can: I want it to be treated with the respect it deserves. I am also fluent in Portuguese, having studied foreign languages at University. At the moment I am taking Russian classes. I think knowing more languages helps me teaching better because I know how my students’ languages work. Moreover, I am a cheerful person who loves to talk and know new people, which makes me love every single student who crosses my path. I am precise and patient and seeing students learning is my big reward.

 

My first experience as an Italian teacher for foreigners was during the DITALS (certificate for teaching Italian to foreigners) course, as we had to practice what we learnt during classes. Afterwards I started a cooperation with a local language school as well as with my neighbourhood kinder garden and primary school, where I organised free Italian courses for foreign students’ parents. I use what we call Humanistic method, starting from everyday life dialogues, newsapaper’s articles and student’s experiences. From these, I get to the rules that regulate my language. I normally use books and photocopies that the school management prepares after my suggestion and sometimes I collect material from the Internet. I can teach both to adults and to children, having taken the corresponding DITALS certification. With children I always start from everyday life and never insist on rules. I let the children understand the rule by practicing the language or just present rules as games. When teaching to adults I make a difference between those who decided to study Italian for pleasure and those who have to, which are almost always immigrants. With the latter, I concentrate most on giving them the instruments to communicate in the most independent way, after that, I expand the contents of my lessons.

I am a qualified Italian native teacher.
I have been teaching Italian for over 12 years .I taught at University for 3 years and at the Foreign Office for 2 years. I am still currently teaching at City Lit, and at the Bishopsgate Institute. At City Lit and at the Bishopsgate Institute, I am teaching Italian to adults at all levels.I am doing ILT training courses and incorporating new technologies in my classes. I have mixed ability classes and have to differentiate between students by giving them different tasks.
At the foreign office, I taught intensive Italian courses to diplomats. I prepared and taught intensive tailored courses for diplomats assigned to Italy for work.
At Goldsmith University, I taught Italian from beginners to advanced business level. Group sizes varied from 6 to 15.I prepared lesson plans and schemes of work. I regularly met with colleagues to evaluate our progress. We observed and assessed each other while teaching to get regular feedback. I, therefore, gained a lot from working within a team.
I have 13 years of experience in private tuition. I have been teaching mainly to adults, but I also taught for 3 years children and teenagers.
I mainly use the communicative method and the choice of activities is essential and has to suit the topic chosen for that day. I believe that it is important to have a clear start to the lesson – students need to know what they are being taught (i.e.the objectives of the lesson need to be clarified upfront).
I always alternate the 4 skills (listening, writing, reading and speaking). Plus, I do lots of role plays, games and group discussions.

In Sept. 2004 – June 2005 University Certificate in Language Teaching to Adults (CLTA). The course included extensive teaching practice each week throughout the whole year at Goldsmith University.
For beginners and elementary students I use “ Nuovo Espresso 1” “ Nuovo Espresso2” ““Rapidamente”, also, support books like: “ Grammatichiamo, Contatti” . These are just some of the books I use. Plus, my own material, authentic material, videos, flash cards, cue cards,Power Point, Electronic Smart Board etc…For intermediate students, I have my own material, plus books like “Linea Diretta” and “ Espresso 3”. For advanced students I use newspapers and magazines articles, “Magari” Authentic material and my own material.

I do think that is important that a teacher loves what he/she does and that she /he has a positive attitude towards the subject taught and towards the students and their work. I love teaching my language, and I do so by using modern teaching techniques in a friendly, fun and efficient way. I tailor my lessons to meet the needs of my students, whether my students are learning Italian for leisure, business, or academic reasons. I am flexible, patient and enthusiastic, and I always bring variety to my lessons by using different teaching methods in order to keep my students active and motivated. I am highly organised, interested in my students and I always create a positive atmosphere, where students feel valued and encouraged to participate. In fact, a relaxed and at the same time well integrate class, in which students respect one another’s opinions and work well together as a team is of a paramount importance to me. I always differentiate in my classes and assess my students in each activity; I am able to anticipate specific and individual problems. I plan my lessons accurately, with lesson plans and schemes of work. I always try to create lessons that are enjoyable and stimulating. I am professional and I always try to strike the right balance between teacher and student talk, but, generally, my classes are “student centred”.
